As a human rights organization, Amnesty International recognizes that many individuals worldwide are discriminated against, attacked, imprisoned, or even executed based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. Amnesty works to fight against these human rights abuses.
At NYC Pride 2013, we plan to highlight the solidarity action for Noxolo Nogwaza as well as the forthcoming Student Non-Discrimination Act. Furthermore, we plan to draw attention to the recent cancellation of Ukraine’s first ever gay pride rally due to government censorship, and to advocate for freedom of expression worldwide. Pride is also important in reaffirming and extending our support for marriage equality. Amnesty International has participated in countless Pride parades globally and plan further stand in solidarity with the LGBT community and allies.
We would love members' support at the parade: come out to watch us march and visit our booth!
