No One Signs up to Become a Slave
Right now, thousands of men, women, and children in the tri-state area are forced to work against their will in households, sweatshops, construction sites, and adult clubs. An estimated 20,000 people are trafficked into the United Sates every year (as many as 700,000 are trafficked internationally) - many through and into New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This October, Amnesty International presents a series of events to raise awareness of trafficking - and money for its victims - in collaboration with Safe Horizon, Tonic, Exit Art and Isadora Productions.
October 10 8:30 p.m.
HERE Arts Center - 145 Sixth Avenue (at Spring St.)
PLAY READING and PANEL DISCUSSION
Isadora Productions will present excerpts from their new play, "Becoming Natasha", based on Victor Malarek's book about the global sex trade, The Natashas. The reading will be followed by a panel discussion on the place of activism in the theater, featuring Ron Russell of Epic Theater Center, Josh Fox of International WOW, Kristin Marting of HERE, and Sophia Skiles of THAW.
