This year marks the thirty-fourth time Group 11 of Amnesty International presents a benefit concert to raise money for AIUSA's manifold activities on behalf of human rights.
It is always a great pleasure to hear beautiful music beautifully performed in the Mannes auditorium, a small and intimate space that makes for unimpeded communication from performer to listener. We always have a varied and interesting program, and this time it is not only interesting but in some ways quite out of the ordinary.
Performers include: Emily Duncan-Brown , a young Canadian soprano, equally at home in opera and art song, will collaborate with the Israeli pianist Nimrod Pfeffer in a wonderful group of songs by Richard Strauss, and in the moving and brilliant scena that concludes Act 1 of Verdi's opera La Traviata. Chin Kim , a distinguished violinist who performed for us in one of our previous concerts, will be joined by his frequent collaborator, the excellent David Oei, in Debussy's colorful and exciting sonata for Violin and Piano. To close the program, Nimrod Pfeffer , whom we will have heard together with Ms Duncan-Brown earlier in the concert, will play three of Chopin's most beloved masterpieces. Mr. Pfeffer is an outstanding pianist with an unusually close relation to music of the romantic era, especially the music of Chopin.
Your suggested donation of $25 will allow you to become a member of Amnesty International USA, thereby adding your name and voice to those working for human rights throughout the world. In so doing you will not only be helping to support our mission, but will also allow you to keep up-to-date with current human rights issues and take action.
