Death Penalty Event
November 2006
Madison, WI
The combined AIUSA Local and Student Group 139 of Madison took an active role in campaigning to keep Wisconsin death penalty free during the fall of 2006. During the fall general election, Wisconsin voters had a non-binding advisory referedum seeking to reinstate the death penalty in a state where the penalty had been abolished over 150 years ago.
The Madison AIUSA activists, held dorm meetings, sponsored a poetry slam, and a well attended public forum to educate the public why the death penalty is a human rights violation.
On the Saturday before the general election, at a home football game attended by thousands, activists wore sandwhich signs along all the major pathways to the Univerity of Wisconin - Madison football stadium as a part of the campaign. An unidentified activist is shown wearing the message in this photo.
