Join Amnesty International activists as we take to the streets of downtown Chicago to demand justice in Sri Lanka. During the final months of Sri Lanka's brutal civil war, both government forces and the opposition Tamil Tigers committed war crimes and other human rights abuses. Thousands of civilians were killed, thousands more injured. Yet, more than three years after the end of the war, no one has been held accountable.
Amnesty International members will gather at Federal Plaza to demand an international investigation into the war crimes committed by both sides during the war in Sri Lanka. Jim McDonald, the Sri Lanka country specialist for AIUSA, will describe the continuing impunity for war crimes in Sri Lanka and the need for an international investigation. Join us as we demand the establishment of an international investigation without further delay, so the victims and their families in Sri Lanka can finally receive truth and justice.
