International Day in Support of Survivors of Torture

On June 26th, activists around the world will honor the International Day in Support of Survivors of Torture. At Amnesty International USA, this work begins in our own “backyard,” with the cases of more than one hundred men and women of color who were brutally tortured by Chicago police commander Jon Burge between 1972 and 1991. These decades of brutality tore apart families and communities, and the survivors have been denied the reparations needed to make them whole.

Join us at 5:30 p.m. on June 26 as we march from Union Station to the US Supreme Court to the Capitol. Add your voice to the global campaign to #StopTorture as we demand reparations for Chicago torture survivors, and urge the public and policy makers not to turn a blind eye to torture.
