HONK! Festival

Join the petition drive: Celebrate the "Honk!" Somerville activist music festival by helping to free artists imprisoned for their craft!

On October 7th, a contingent of Amnesty International members will marching in the Honk! Festival parade. Honk! is a festival of activist street bands. Hundreds of people and over 30 bands participate in the parade. We are celebrating the power of the arts and protest at Honk! by calling for the protection of artists and their freedom of expression.

Take action in our online petition drive and make some noise in support of three artists imprisoned for their work:
1. Dhondup Wangchen. A Tibetan filmmaker serving 6 years in prison for his film, Leaving Fear Behind, on the opinions of Tibetans regarding the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the Dalai Lama. Sign our petition calling for Dhondup's release!
2. Jafar Panahi. An Iranian filmmaker and writer sentenced to 6 years in prison and a 20-year ban on all his artistic activities. Sign our petition calling for justice for Jafar!
3. Pussy Riot. Three members of the feminist Russian punk rock band and art collective were recently sentenced to 2 years in a labor camp for a 30-second performance. Two other participants still face arrest and criminal charges. Sign our petition and support members of Pussy Riot!

Honk a little louder! Help us meet our goal to collect 300 signatures for each case by the end of the Honk! festival.

Once you've signed the petitions, please ask your friends on campus and in your community to sign them too. Post it on Facebook or Twitter. Send a link to the petitions out to an email list that might be interested. It's the most effective way to reach a lot of people at once!

Bring in the noise! Bring in the human rights!

Do you live in or nearby the Cambridge area? March with Amnesty members in the "Honk!" parade to help put a spotlight on these prisoners of conscience and the fight for freedom of expression.

When: Sunday, October 7th @ 11 AM
Where: Davis Square (Somerville), behind the CVS
