2004 Annual General Meeting

Recruiting AGM Resolution Workers

The National Resolutions Committee is currently recruiting resolutions process workers for the AGM. This is a great opportunity to take an active part in the process on the national level. The positions are described below:

Chairperson: The Chairperson is an AIUSA member well versed in the resolutions process and parliamentary procedure (Roberts' Rules of Order). The Chairperson makes sure that the people in the room know what is going on, keeps track of where they are in the process, and ensures that all substantive points are heard while avoiding spending time on redundancy and minor grammatical points. The Chair is also responsible for the final wording of each resolution and of the content of the report made from the Working Party of Plenary to the Plenary or the Board.

Rapporteurs: Rapporteurs are the secretaries of the plenary session. After the Working Party or Plenary is over, the Rapporteurs compare notes and make sure that they have an accurate record of the debate and votes. Working Party Rapporteurs are asked to prepare a brief summary of the issues addressed and amendments made to each resolution that passed (including what in their judgment were important amendments that may have failed).

Runners: Runners are volunteers who run to get whatever material or human resources the Working Party or Plenary requires, so that the Chairperson and Rapporteurs do not need to leave the room and the session is not interrupted. Runners also count votes when necessary.

Resolutions Workers will meet Friday, April 16, 2004 at the AGM site to receive training and coordinate efforts.

If you are interested in volunteering at the AGM, please contact the National Resolutions Committee at aiusa-resol@aiusa.org. We especially invite student activists to consider participation as runners and rapporteurs.
