REPORTING FROM THE AGM

2003 Ideas Fair at the AIUSA Annual General Meeting

The 2003 Ideas Fair at the AIUSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Omni William Penn Hotel in early April was the biggest and best ever.

The Ideas Fair was held in the art deco Urban Ballroom, an historical treasure in Pittsburgh. Almost fifty groups, members and AIUSA staffers mounted displays on 96 tall black foamcore panels celebrating the diverse human rights work goin on in AIUSA in communities and nationally. Toni Coverton's display highlighted the intern possibilities available at AIUSA Washington DC Office. Ulana Moroz' display described the Country Specialist Program (formerly known as the Country Coordination Program or co-groups) and available volunteer openings in the program.

Edwin Mercado of AI local group #23 in Houston brought CDs of The HR Show, that he and others produce weekly using AI/AIUSA human rights materials. Group # 133's marvelous and playful king-size Human Rights Monopoly took up a corner of the ballroom. Groups that participated in the worldwide 24 hour letter-writing marathon mounted a display detailing how they did it and invited viewers to consider participating in the marathon next year.
