BUDGET TRAVEL

Does your group want to attend the AGM but you need financial help?

The AGM is a key opportunity to meet activists from around the country working together on many of the same issues you face in your own community. There are many creative solutions for funding travel to the AGM.

Here are some ideas:
  • Get volunteer subsidies from your regional office. Here's how

  • Your group can raise money by selling fair trade chocolate. Here's how
  • Ask for financial assistance from your school or local AI group.
  • Share costs by travelling together in carpools with members from other local and student groups.
  • Save with special low air fares from Seagate Travel Group (toll free 800.645.3392 or 888-706-3841; email: Lois.Trinka@seagatetravel.com)

Traveling to Pittsburgh by air can be much less expensive than what most people may believe. With a little effort on your part, you can often find exceptional travel bargains.

A Cheaper Way to Get to the Hotel:
A Tip from AI Area Coordinator Scott Roller

Yes, there is a cheaper way to get to the hotel for the AGM---it is a bus called the 28X Airport Flyer. It leaves from the airport on a regular basis, and there is a stop a block or so from the hotel (the stop you'll want is "7th Ave. at William Penn Place"). Here is the website that details times and stops of the bus:

http://www.portauthority.org/ride/pgSchedules.asp

Once on the page, go to "SEARCH OPTION #2 Full Schedule"; under the "route" heading, scroll down to ""28X Airport Flyer", and for "direction" click "in bound". You can also enter the time you'll be arriving at the airport, and the search will show you the bus times closest to what you need. The cost for the whole trip to the hotel will be under $3.00, and will take about 30 minutes. While you're at the search site, you may also want to do the reverse (for when you're leaving to go back to the airport) so you have that info with you.
