Is there a preliminary schedule of the AGM somewhere on the web? |
| David |
Yes we've updated it on the web just last week. |
| Rohini |
Yes: www.amnestyusa.org/events/agm2002
|
| Dave |
terrific...thanks |
| David |
Also updated on the web site is a new overview of events. |
| Kevin |
What is the topic of the teach-in? |
| Dana |
As far as I know the teach-in is moving along. |
| David |
The teach-in will be held at Town Hall on Sunday afternoon following
the AGM. The times are 3-6 pm. The teach-in will be on globalization and is being
organized by our local group members. It will have two segments: First, a discussion
including Amnesty International USAs advocacy for the International Right
to Know legislation, and an examination of international trafficking in human
beings from a human rights perspective. Second, a networking session bringing
together a broad range of individuals and groups working on issues related to
globalization, the environment and human rights. We anticipate that this session
will generate a provocative discussion and hundreds of new links between activists
and organizations. |

Do we know what bands are playing during the concert on friday?
|
| David |
Update: The EMP Benefit concert has been cancelled.
We are currently in our last round of discussions for
bands. The EMP Benefit concert is scheduled for Friday evening. Does everyone
know a little about the concert? EMP is the Experienec Music Project. AIUSA and
EMP are collaborating on a benefit concert. We are down to 2 hot bands and tickets
should be available soon.

Question: What are the "registration polices" for
non-Amnesty members who want to attend all or part of the AGM as observers? |
| David |
All are welcome to participate in the conference. Most events
including plenaries and panels are open to the public. The only closed sessions
are the working parties and voting plenary. |
| Dave |
By the way David. I just wanted to let you know...I think you
did a great job on the AGM last year. You all work hard it's much appreciated.
|
| Rohini |
:-) |
| David |
Thanks! Much appreciated! |
| Dana |
Okay, so if a non-member attends one or more of the open sessions,
then they must register and pay the appropriate fee? Or, do they just walk in
and observe? |
| David |
We also have a pass which is sold on-site available for those
who want to attend only one day. This is great for local people who may not be
AIUSA members yet but want to get involved in learning about human rights. We're
curious if the word is getting out about the EMP concert and Teach in. |
| Rohini |
A one-day pass $15. |

Aside from the teach-in, what kinds of action opportunities
will be available? |
| David |
We want to concentrate on 2 particular actions: The International
Right to Know Campaign and the Guatemala action. |
| Kevin |
What's the latest on the speakers? |
| David |
We have a great line of speakers including Rudolfo Montiel Flores
the recently freed POC. We also are having a special address from Mary Robinson
taped for the AGM. Around the Guatemala action, we have an event scheduled Sat
night at El Centro de la Raza a center dedicated to service and empowerment of
the Latino community. It will launch an exhibit by Colorado activist photographer
Jonathan Moller. The images are haunting testimonies of the exhumations of Guatemalan
"disappeared". We will be inviting the Seattle community to take part
in the action with us. |
| Kevin |
Here is another question... What panels are being presented?
|
| David |
SATURDAY, April 20, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. We have five panels:
Defending Human Rights, the Environment, and People's Rights in the Age of
Corporate Globalization, Global Perspectives on the DP, The Globalization of Justice,
Root Causes: ESC Rights, Economic Globalization and Amnesty's Mission, and
a favorite of mine...When Globalization is Not Good for Women. Please note that
we split the panel sessions, so we have 5 more the next day: SUNDAY, April 21,
8:30 am - 10:00 am: The AIDS Pandemic, Can Corporate Social responsibility Promote
Human Rights?, Human Rights Violations Rooted in Identity-Based Descrimination,
Sept 11, 2001, and the Russia campaign. |
| Kevin |
When should everyone book return tickets? |
| David |
I think, because Iren Khan is speaking last from 1:30-2:30 pm,
people should try to book later flights out. Keep in mind the Teach in on Sunday
from 3-6 pm. In any case, Seattle is a lot of fun! Stay and enjoy the evening...
|
| Rohini |
Sunday around 7 or 8 pm |
| Kevin |
Thanks for chatting today, David. |
| Kevin |
Thanks, Rohini |
| Rohini |
You're welcome |
| David |
Thanks everyone! See you in Seattle! |
| Kevin |
The next chat on the AGM will be in two weeks. |
| Rohini |
See you then |
| Kevin |
Good bye everyone. |
| Rohini |
