  Associate Director, Direct Response

New York, NY

Reporting to Managing Director of Direct Response, co-lead and manage all aspects of AIUSA's Direct Response fundraising program, with full responsibility for all offline direct response activities including direct mail, inbound and outbound telemarketing, canvass, and workplace giving, and general operations of the Direct Response unit. Supervise a Member Services team for fundraising department with $42M revenue and over one million donor and activist record.

Serving as "second in command" to Managing Director, the Associate Director will co-lead all activities in the unit, supervise the Member Services team and ensure that all communication with members and the general public accurately reflects AIUSA's mission, policies and programs. Ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in developing and executing membership strategies coupled with a successful track record building partnerships, strategic alliances and relationship management.

Other responsibilities include collaborating in the ongoing strategic oversight of direct mail, telemarketing and canvass recruitment and donor development programs, including budget development and monitoring, segmentation, strategic analysis and evaluation of results, message development, etc. Collaborate with Online Fundraising Manager to ensure effective message integration and multi-channel outreach and response mechanisms. Assist in design and implementation of a Spanish-language member servicing program, to support the testing and implementation of a bilingual membership recruitment and development program

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Requires 7+ years in leading and managing a direct response fundraising program in a high-volume direct response fundraising environment and with monthly giving program management. Ability to interact with donors across all giving levels and effectively communicate AI's mission, vision and key program activities and goals. Familiarity and facility with fundraising database systems. Strong leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team. Must have outstanding communication and organizational skills; superior customer service skills and focus; strong analytical and problem solving skills. Able to manage multiple projects, prioritize and exercise independent action. Must have an understanding of and passion for human rights work.

  Senior Accountant

New York, NY

Based in our USA headquarters in New York, ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the CFO in the accounting and financial administration of the Finance Unit. The ideal candidate would be on fast-track to assume a Controller position, based on qualifications and performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee accounting systems and ensure timely and accurate recording of accounting transactions.
  • Recommend and implement system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Direct the production of variance analyses, accounting schedules, general journals and account reconciliation.
  • Oversee the payroll administrator who handles bi-weekly payroll, administers all non-medical insurance coverage and the handling of all state and other miscellaneous fundraising registrations.
  • Manage the review tracking of the $14 million Investment Portfolio by the Staff Accountant.
  • Improve the design of and monitor the allocation of overhead and other allocated items by payroll and the Staff Accountant to specific programs and departments.
  • Initiate the tracking of 'Donated Services' revenues and expenses via a variety of direct and statistical methods.
  • Be the primary responsible party for the preparation, planning and oversight of the budget process.
  • Oversee the work of the staff Accountant work in maintaining the organization's fixed asset inventory and the capital budget.
  • Work with the CFO to prepare rolling 24-month cash sources and uses forecasts for the Board of Directors.
  • Manage the work of the Staff Accountant who prepares management reports for various levels of managers, senior staff, the CFO, the Executive Director and the Board.
  • Supervise 2 Staff Accountants, including the payroll function, and temp accounting staff that may be hired from time to time to assist balance workloads.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MPA and/ or CPA strongly preferred;
  • Blackbaud Financial Edge experience strongly desired;
  • 10 years of progressive accounting responsibilities, with 5 years at the Senior Accountant level;
  • Demonstrated leadership and balanced management style, including providing direction and coaching;
  • Tact and diplomacy when dealing with all levels of the organization;
  • Must be a self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills; strong problem solving, analytical, and quantitative skills with the ability to effectively drive projects to completion;
  • Strong teamwork and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, work independently, and utilize time management skills;
  • Strong financial systems orientation, knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and audit preparation;
  • Experience with the administration of organizational insurance matters;

  Managing Director, Campaigns

New York, NY or Washington, DC

The Managing Director of AIUSA's Campaigns Unit is responsible for developing, strategizing and implementing global and national thematic and country-specific campaigns. The Managing Director is responsible for the national coordination of the campaigns strategy including communications, grassroots mobilization, outreach, and US government advocacy. The Managing Director works closely with the global Amnesty movement in linking US campaign strategy and goals with the International Secretariat and other AI sections.

She/he manages the Campaigns Unit which includes over a dozen professional level staff that lead AIUSA's priority campaigns work on: the war on terror/anti-torture; death penalty abolition; poverty and human rights; immigrant rights; individuals at risk and; crisis response work. The staff of the unit is based both in NY and DC and the Managing Director will need to travel often between these two offices.

This position is a key leadership position within AIUSA and reports directly to the Deputy Executive Director for Organizing, Membership and Campaigns.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus seven to ten years' successful experience with grassroots organizing; strategy development at the local, national and international levels; and creating and managing high profile and effective campaigns. Demonstrated success developing creative campaign strategies that effectively mobilize diverse constituencies to achieve real human rights/social justice victories is a must. Keen understanding on using media and new media to support campaigns work and knowledge and experience in building coalitional and strategic partnerships with key external stakeholders. Strong project management experience, including managing multi layered projects with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Career interest in and strong commitment to human rights and social justice work. Highly developed leadership and supervisory skills. Ability and commitment to work collegially and collaboratively with internal and external constituents.   Coordinator, National Activist Network

New York, NY

The Coordinator, National Activist Network ("Coordinator") is responsible for leading all aspects of the coordination and development of the volunteer leadership structures within AIUSA. The Coordinator will implement a national strategy to fully engage AIUSA volunteer leaders and activists on key human rights issues; expand the recruitment of volunteer networks; create mechanisms to sustain and transition members during the lifetime of their activism. The Coordinator will work closely with the various departments to develop solid training opportunities for volunteer leaders and student/local groups, addressing the leadership development of volunteers around the country and their education on AIUSA's critical human rights priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus five to seven years of political, labor or community organizing training and experience; strong experience building and sustaining volunteer leadership structures and activist networks. Qualified candidate must have strong expertise in the use of databases, Microsoft office programs (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and online tools, etc.. Strong project management skills that yield results is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to connect with a variety of audiences and communities is a must. Fluency in Spanish, French or Mandarin preferred but not required.

  Deputy Director, Major Gifts

New York, NY

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Deputy Director will provide high level strategic management for an experienced team of Major Gift Officers based in Boston, New York, DC, Atlanta and Chicago. As a senior member of the Major Gifts Unit, the Deputy Director will lead the team to develop increasingly effective cultivation and solicitation strategies including an integrated communication plan that encompasses electronic and printed media. S/he will manage and supervise the development of funding proposals and other written materials including acknowledgements and other standard correspondence and coordinate donor field visits. The Deputy Director will also manage his/her own portfolio of 50-75 major donors and be expected to meet an annual revenue goal and assist the Director of Major Gifts in the overall management of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS: BA or equivalent, plus additional related college courses or professional training. Minimum of four years of work experience in development, in particular major gifts, with demonstrated track record of success. Previous managerial and supervisory experience required.   Campaign Director, Immigrant Rights

Washington, DC or New York, NY

Candidates must be experienced campaigners or organizers with highly developed leadership skills. This should include a track record of developing creative campaign strategies that effectively mobilize diverse constituencies to achieve real human rights/social justice victories. Successful candidates must also have strong project management experience, including managing multi layered projects with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Candidates must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast moving work environment. Successful candidates will play a leadership role in developing and implementing a new Amnesty International campaign focusing on human rights abuses perpetrated against migrants in detention in the US.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Seven to ten years of relevant experience required, including campaigning or community organizing. Experience in and/or demonstrated interest in issues related to migrant/immigration rights. Program or operational management experience required, including demonstrated leadership and project management.   Field Organizer, Western Region

San Francisco, CA

AIUSA Field Organizers (FO) report to one of five Regional Directors, and are assigned territories within which they are responsible for organizing and coordinating the work of AIUSA members and activists, consistent with Amnesty International's approach to human rights work. FOs support local member groups within their territory with recruiting and engagement events, human rights education and activist training. We currently seek a Field Organizer for the Western Region, located in our San Francisco office.

Taking direction from the leadership at AIUSA, the FO plays a critical role in the development and implementation of regional responses to new or emergency human rights crises. Working in collaboration with Campaign and External Affairs staff, s/he organizes fundraising, public awareness and campaign events, and serves as AIUSA's public representative for the territory. The FO also serves on internal campaign inter-departmental working groups, and is a key participant in the development and implementation of long-term regional campaign strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS: A BA plus four to six years of directly relevant experience is required, including working with diverse communities. Teambuilding, organizing and excellent presentation skills are required. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, who can work with volunteer activists and members, as well as other AIUSA staff toward our shared goals. S/he must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, training and facilitating. The ability to speak a second language is required, prefferably Farsi, Urdu, Arabic or Hindi. S/he must be able to travel up to 25% of the time and work on weekends and evenings as needed.
