Human Rights Education
ACTIVATE: Human Rights Education Initiative
ACTIVATE: Human Rights Education Initiative is a program that provides training and materials for college students who are interested in using human rights education as a means of empowerment and activism within their local high schools. The program began in 1997 as a way for Amnesty to work with urban high school students to discuss and analyze human rights issues on the local, national and international levels. The program currently operates in Chicago, Washington, DC, and Youngstown, OH. The next phase of expansion will occur in Detroit, MI, Milwaukee, WI, and Manketo, MN. A national ACTIVATE "How To" manual is currently in production and will be available to student groups in Fall 2005. If you are interested in participating in ACTIVATE (high school groups can also participate), please contact education@aiusa.org
