Children Can Be Human Rights Activists, Too!

AIKids: Making a World of Difference.

#

Every month, thousands of kids take part in the work of Amnesty International by writing letters in response to the latest AIKids' Urgent Action.

What is an AIKids' Urgent Action? It's an Amnesty International Urgent Action -- usually one involving a child or teenager -- that has been edited for activists 9 to 14 years old. The text of the original action is shortened, graphic descriptions of torture or mistreatment are removed, and in place of the multiple addresses that typically appear, the address of a single official is chosen. AIKids' Urgent Actions come with a map of the country targeted, and when available, a photograph of the person who is the subject of the case.

Why does Amnesty International create actions for youngsters 9 to 14 years old? Because kids hear about horrible things happening in the world -- often with no mention of what could be done to end the suffering or to improve the situation. AIKids' Urgent Actions empower young people to take positive action. They teach kids about human rights and about the importance of their own effort.
