Amnesty International Asia Director, T. Kumar, to Preview President Obama’s Visit to China
National Press Club “Afternoon Newsmaker” Event Challenges Obama to
“No Longer Be a Silent Spectator”
(Washington) – Amnesty International USA’s International Asia Director, T. Kumar, will present for the National Press Club’s Afternoon Newsmaker news conference on Thursday, November 12, at 4:00 p.m. The event will focus on President Obama’s upcoming trip to China and its significance from a human rights standpoint.
Despite the persistence of serious human rights abuses throughout China, the Obama administration has been mute on the issue. This deafening silence has an adverse effect on the situation in China and in other countries with similar records of human rights violations. Kumar will discuss President Obama’s responsibility to address such issues during his visit to China and will outline the serious human rights situation.
