- DC Washington - State Department Vigil
- Monday, August 7 4:30 p.m.
United States Department of State
2201 C Street NW
Washington, DC 20520
In response to the current crisis in the Middle East, Amnesty International is organizing a Global Vigil Calling for Ceasefire in Israel and Lebanon Conflict. Blatant and gross violations of international humanitarian law are being committed by both Israeli forces and Hezbollah, including the indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force and direct targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. Given the circumstances, a ceasefire represents the most effective means of creating the conditions in which protection of the civilian population can be guaranteed.
The vigil will take place on Monday, August 7, 2006 at 4:30pm at the United States Department of State, 2201 C Street NW, Washington, DC 20520.
Similar vigils are being organized by Amnesty sections across the globe. It is important to note that the vigil will be totally apolitical. The tone will be one of solidarity and compassion, with a strong emphasis on supporting victims and survivors on both sides.
We hope to see you on Monday!
