SHARE POWER Campaign – Timeline

Use this timeline to help plan your campaign strategy over the coming year, including participation in key national and international days of action.

Fall 2006
Winter 2006
  • Day of Action: November 10, 11-year anniversary of Ken Saro-Wiwa's execution. Organize a special event and educate your community on how Chevron and other oil companies are affecting the communities in Nigeria!
  • In November (date to be announced), governments and companies from all over the world will attend a UN conference to discuss the future of the Internet. You can help us send a clear message to them that people everywhere believe the Internet should be a force for political freedom, not repression by gathering signatures on the online petition at http://irrepressible.info.
  • Day of Action: December 2/3, 22nd anniversary of the Bhopal gas leak. Organize a remembrance event or protest and educate your community on how Dow Chemical (DOW) is affecting the communities in Bhopal, India.
  • Note: Amnesty and our coalition of responsible investors will file shareholder proposals for 2007 proxy voting in Nov/Dec 2006. Learn about past resolutions here.
Spring 2007
  • Early Spring is an effective time to intensify grassroots activism in support of shareholder proposals which will be voted on in April and May. This is the time to obtain a commitment from the shareholders you are working with that they will vote in favor of filed proposals.
  • Day of Action: March 22, World Water Day
    Use this day to remind the public about communities in Ecuador and Bhopal who are drinking poisoned water every day because of Chevron and Dow's irresponsible business decisions.
  • Day of Action: April 22, Earth Day
    Organize an event to raise awareness of the links between the environment and human rights in Bhopal and the Ecuadorian Amazon.
  • In late April and early May, Chevron (CVX), Dow Chemical (DOW), and Yahoo will hold their Annual Shareholder Meetings (dates to be announced), where all proxy votes will be counted. Attend the protests outside their meetings (Chevron in San Ramon, CA, Dow in Midland, MI, and Yahoo in Sunnyvale, CA), or plan a protest at your school/in your community.   • Day of Action: May 3, World Press Freedom Day
    Use this day to raise awareness of the way Yahoo is threatening freedom of expression in China and to demand the release of internet dissidents like Shi Tao.
