POWER – Who has it exactly?

Of the world's 100 largest economic entities, 52 are corporations and 48 are countries ("Field Guide to the Global Economy" by Sarah Anderson, John Cavanagh, Thea Lee, 2005.)

What are companies doing with all this power?

Chemical and gas leaks that kill thousands and cause endless suffering!
Pollution that doesn’t get cleaned up!
Excessive use of force to protect corporate interests!
Is impunity the RULE? - NO!

YOU have the POWER to keep these multinationals in check!

Powerful companies depend on big investors to buy their stock and keep their profits going UP, UP, UP… When these big shareholders speak, companies listen. “But I don’t own a single penny of a company’s stocks” you say. Well, you do! …Indirectly.

How? We all walk around with our pockets full of ‘Invisible Power Money.’ In one way or another you are connected to a big shareholder like: the university you go or went to, the treasury of the city and state you live in, or the investment bank that handles your money. This connection gives you the right to know which companies these shareholders are invested in, and to educate them about what they can do to pressure those companies to change for the better.

Make Your Concerns Heard

HOW? Start a SHARE POWER campaign in your community! SHARE POWER was created by Amnesty International’s Corporate Action Network.

SHARE POWER:
  • Helps you find your connection to big investors
  • And gives you step-by-step guidance and support to make your campaign a success!
Adjust your campaign to your time availability! You can start alone and build up supporters along the way. You can make it as big or as small as you want. Also, SHARE POWER has an online Forum! So you can interact with others who are sharing their power to end corporate human rights abuses.

Just remember that no matter who you are, where you study, where you work or where you live you are connected to multinational corporations. YOU can influence them to change. Use your POWER!
