Take Action Now to Help Defend Communities in Bhopal and Hold DOW/UCC Accountable!

A nocturnal gas leak in 1984 took the lives of more than 7,000 people in Bhopal, India over a three-day span, and a further 15,000 in the years that followed. The leak came from a pesticide plant owned by Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), now owned by Dow Chemical (DOW). The company is still denying its responsibility and refuses to reveal the toxicological information of the gas, thwarting medical efforts to deliver appropriate treatment to the more than 100,000 surviving victims.

"Flames Not Flowers," a hiphop song written by Terry Allan and performed by Movement in Motion, tells the epic story of the people of Bhopal in their 20-year struggle against one of the world's largest corporations.
Plan an event to raise awareness and take action for Bhopal

  • Join a Students for Bhopal Group near you planning a street theater funeral procession, to remember those that have died and draw attention to Dow's failure to respond to the ongoing crisis.

  • Send a personalized note to Dow Board Members. A handwritten card or letter sent to their home is more likely to be opened and read. Express your concerns in your own way, or base it on our sample letter.
  • Host a film screening to show "One night in Bhopal" or "Twenty years without justice." Contact corpaction@aiusa.org to request a copy, then download our fact sheet and petition, and gather signatures at your event.
  • Find out what you can do to build public awareness.
