Economic Activism: a New Tool to Protect the People of Darfur

AIUSA has launched an economic activism campaign targeting the oil industry in Sudan. We are mobilizing major U.S.-based institutional investors to press top oil companies operating in Sudan to do everything in their power to ensure that their operations contribute to greater security and well-being for the people of Sudan and do not fuel human rights abuses.
Getting Started
AIUSA's first actions call upon institutional investors to pressure the dominant oil companies in Sudan – China National Petroleum Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India, Petronas of Malaysia, and Sinopec Corp. of China – to use their influence with the Sudanese government. These companies should press for the speedy, full deployment of a hybrid United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force to Darfur, as authorized in UN Security Council Resolution 1769. Economic activism is one key lever that AIUSA can use to bring security and justice to the people of Darfur.
