About this film

Tibet: Beyond Fear has been playing on television and in film festivals around the world. The New York Times hails the film as "Emotional…Riveting…Compelling". With an opening by Richard Gere, this inspiring film documents the remarkable courage and indomitable will of Ngwang, a 13-year-old Tibetan Buddhist Nun and Bagdro, a 20-year-old Tibetan Buddhist Monk, who lead demonstrations against the Chinese authorities in Tibet.

Following a brutal military crackdown, they're arrested, imprisoned and horribly tortured but refused to name names of anyone else involved in the democracy movement. Bagdo escaped Tibet by crossing the Himalayan mountains on foot, enduring temperatures of minus 40degrees and so weak, he was carried for a month. Ngwang repeatedly protested while in prison and received several extended sentences. She and other nuns smuggled out a secret recording of freedom songs that galvanized an international campaign spearheaded by Amnesty International and the International Campaign for Tibet, culminating in her release.

Through the power of a positive mind and inspired by the Dalai Lama, Bagdro and Ngwang are extraordinary examples of bravery and the resiliency of the human spirit as they found a way beyond fear. They have even let go over of their anger and forgiven their former torturers.

The interviews with leaders of Amnesty International and the International Campaign For Tibet as well as inspirational words from the Dalai Lama, give valuable context to the stories of Ngwang and Bagdro and show how individual action can have a great impact for positive change.

Amnesty International, International Campaign For Tibet, Students For Free Tibet, The Dalai Lama's Office of Tibet, The Tibet House and Rock To Save Darfur support the film.
