ICRC "Deplores" Killing of Over 40 Demonstrators in Madagascar Capital
The International Committee of the Red Cross has deplored the killing of over 40 people and the wounding of more than 350 during anti-government demonstrations in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.

The BBC reported that the killings came when police opened fire on an opposition demonstration on February 7, 2009. The BBC reports that there have been repeated protests against the dismissal of Antananarivo Mayor Andry Rajoelina, who is engaged in a power struggle with President Marc Ravalomanana. Dozens of people were killed in unrest in January after anti-government protests turned into rioting and looting.
