Youth-4-Youth: helping kids make a world of difference
- Youth-4-Youth involves high school and college students using the monthly AIUSA AIKids’ Urgent Actions with middle school students to write letters on behalf of youngsters in danger all over the world.
- Letter-writing empowers! Over the past 20 years, 9 through 14-year-olds have written thousands of letters to government officials to protect youngsters in Nepal, India, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, Uganda, China, Brazil, Burma, and 40 other countries!
- The Y4Y Guide comprises five lessons. Lesson 1 introduces students to Amnesty International (Amnesty 101). Lesson 2 introduces students to general human rights concepts and ideas. Lesson 3 broadens the scope of human rights to look at how they are practiced and abused around the world. Lesson 4 teaches students how to take action by writing letters on behalf of Prisoners of Conscience or individuals at risk of human rights violations. Finally, Lesson 5 encourages students to examine how well human rights standards are followed in the school community. A list of resources is included in the end for further information and action, along with a Universal Declaration of Human Rights bookmark and common human rights vocabulary.
