Racine native and Amnesty International staff member Morgan McLean will speak on the death penalty. For over 150 years, Wisconsin's progressive people, politics, and industry have made the state a leader in this country. Part of this great history has been keeping the death penalty out of our state. We should preserve our history and continue to stand by this proud tradition. The United States is one of only four countries in the world - along with China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia - that accounted for 94% of all executions worldwide in 2005. Amnesty International works for the abolition of the death penalty as part of its ongoing efforts to protect and promote human rights around the world. The death penalty system is riddled with racial and economic bias, and tainted by human error. If we truly believe that killing is wrong, we must oppose it in all cases, even when it is sanctioned by the state.
